THE CIRQUE IS BACK IN TOWN; Arena date for super show.

Byline: By CATHERINE JONES Culture Reporter

CIRQUE du Soleil is to return to Liverpool with its masterpiece show Quidam.

The show will appear at the ECHO arena over four nights from February 26 to March 1 next year.

It follows Cirque's visit to the waterfront venue earlier this year with its Delirium show.

This is the first time the Quidam production has toured UK arenas.

It will also appear in Birmingham, Glasgow and Newcastle as part of an eight-city tour which kicks off in Liverpool.

Tickets go on sale at 9am this Friday, September 12.

Quidam, pronounced "key-dam", is a Latin word for an anonymous passer-by, a solitary figure lingering on a street corner, a person rushing past.

The show follows a young girl in a world of nameless faces who embarks on a journey and meets mysterious characters who seduce her with the marvellous, the unsettling and the terrifying.

Teresa Merilainen, of Cirque du Soleil, said: "The show is a classic Cirque du Soleil masterpiece, known to be one the most emotionally impact ful shows in Cirques's repertoire.

"It has great synergy with big cities because it's all about the anonymity of life in a busy, bustling world.

"By limiting capacity to each arena, every venue will be transformed into an intimate performing space, drawing in the audience in a way more reminiscent of Cirque du Soleil's traditional grand chapiteau tent."

Cirque du Soleil promises a thrilling combination of gravity defying acrobats, awe-inspiring aerial acts, contortionists, rope-jumpers, a balancing duo and of course the crazy clowns.

The show, directed by Franco Dragone, features more than 50 performers from 14 countries aged 12 to 52, along with 250 costumes, 500 costume accessories and 200 pairs of shoes.

Quidam has toured the world for the past 13 years and has performed to more than eight million fans across Europe, the US, Australia, Japan, Canada and New Zealand.

Tickets go on sale this Friday at 9am and cost pounds 50. Go to and click on 'Buy tickets',, or ring 0844 8000 400.
