 THE CHARTER COMPANY ANNOUNCES SIX NETWORK SERIES
 FOR SUBSIDIARY
 CINCINNATI, June 1 /PRNewswire/ -- The Charter Company (NYSE: CHR) is pleased to announce that its Spelling Entertainment Inc. subsidiary has received five new network series orders. These new programs are in addition to the previously announced two-year renewal of "Beverly Hills 90210" for 56 episodes from the Fox Broadcasting Network. Spelling Television Inc., a unit of Spelling Entertainment, will produce the new series.
 "The Heights" -- A one-hour music-oriented drama revolving around young working class kids who play in an aspiring rock band. The series starts airing on Wednesdays in August on FOX.
 "2000 Malibu Road" -- A one-hour drama about the secret lives of four very different women living together on an exclusive Malibu beach. It will begin airing in August on CBS.
 "Melrose Place" -- An innovative, contemporary dramatic spin-off series from "Beverly Hills 90210" that focuses on the varied lives of eight young adults living on their own for the first time in one of L.A.'s trendiest neighborhoods. It will begin airing Wednesdays in August on FOX.
 "The Round Table" -- A one-hour series about a group of aspiring young professionals in the law enforcement community in Washington, D.C. It will begin airing on Fridays in August on NBC.
 "True Stories" -- A half-hour fact-based docu-drama series reenacting thrilling true life stories. It will begin airing in mid- July on FOX.
 In addition to these series, Spelling's Laurel Entertainment unit is developing an eight-hour mini-series of Stephen King's all-time best-selling novel, "The Stand," for ABC. This mini-series is expected to be a major event during the upcoming television season.
 All of these new programs are syndicated internationally by Worldvision Enterprises. Worldvision is also distributing the new Lynch/Frost half-hour comedy about 1950s live television, "On The Air," which will begin airing June 24 on ABC. As previously announced, Worldvision is currently syndicating "Beverly Hills 90210" for airing in the United States in the fall of 1994.
 Charter owns approximately 82 percent of Spelling's voting securities and has previously announced an offer to acquire the rest of Spelling's shares in a merger to be voted on by Spelling shareholders in the next several weeks. Spelling is engaged principally in the development, production and worldwide distribution of television series, movies for television and television mini- series. Spelling also distributes feature films in the international market, produces feature films financed and distributed primarily by major studios and licenses music and merchandising rights associated with its television properties. In addition, Charter has discontinued petroleum marketing operations which it expects to sell by the end of the year.
 Charter's common stock trades on the New York and Pacific Stock Exchanges under the symbol CHR and CHRP, respectively.
