Valley Christian Center - The Glory Road Travelers will perform in concert at 2 p.m. Sunday at the church, 210 LaSalle St., Harrisburg. The group also will perform at 6 p.m. today at the Old Time Gospel Fellowship, 103 S. Fifth St., Cottage Grove. 995-6912.

Episcopal Church of St. John the Divine - The annual church picnic will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the church, 2537 Game Farm Road, Springfield. Church services will precede the picnic. 746-3322.

First Church of Christ, Scientist - Mayal Tshiabuila will speak about his humanitarian efforts with street children and conflict minerals in eastern Congo at noon Sunday at the church, 1390 Pearl St. Tshiabuila is with the United Nations Joint Human Rights Office in DR Congo. 344-3524.

His Church of Eugene - A backyard barbecue will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at the church, 1145 Willagillespie Road. Participants should bring meat to barbecue; the rest of the meal will be provided. A church service will precede the barbecue at 11 a.m. 684-8665.

Temple Beth Israel - Local congregations will join with Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon to discuss our government's use of torture in the aftermath of 9/11 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday evening at 1175 E. 29th Ave. The event, "Religion and Human Rights Forum: Two paths to end U.S. use of torture forever," will include testimonies from local citizens of their experience with torture and an 18-minute video from the National Religious Campaign Against Torture on "Ending U.S.-Sponsored Torture Forever." Kevin Finney, the public policy director for Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon, will lead the session. Participating congregations include Central Presbyterian Church, Eugene First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and Temple Beth Israel. The event is free and open to the public. 344-1425.

Spencer Creek Lutheran Church - "Dive In" will be the theme of this year's Valley Vacation Bible School held from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday at the church, 86286 Pine Grove Road. Children between the ages of 4 through those who have completed sixth grade may attend. For advance registration, call 344-4093, or registration will begin at 8:15 a.m. Monday. 517-0644.

St. John the Wonderworker Orthodox Church - Father Josiah Trenham will discuss "The Call to Trust the Lord in an Age of Acute Anxiety" at 7 p.m. Friday at the church, 304 Blair Blvd. Father Trenham, of St. Andrew Orthodox Church in Riverside, Calif., is the author of "Terrestrial Angels: Marriage and Virginity according to St. John Chrysostom." 484-5810.
