THE BUCKLE, INC. REPORTS 16.2 PERCENT SALES INCREASE FOR DECEMBER 1993

 KEARNEY, Neb., Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- The Buckle, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: BKLE) today announced that sales for the five-week period ended Jan. 1, 1994, increased 16.2% to $21.4 million from $18.4 million in the corresponding five-week period for December 1992. Comparable store sales for the five-week period ended Jan. 1, 1994, were down 1.4% from sales for the same period in the prior year. Comparable store sales for December of fiscal 1992 were up 14.7% from the fiscal 1991 sales.
 Net sales year-to-date, for the 48 weeks ended Jan. 1, 1994, increased 15.1% to $123.7 million from $107.5 million for the corresponding 48 weeks in the prior year. Comparable store sales year- to-date were down 3.6% from sales in the same period of fiscal 1992.
 Headquartered in Kearney, The Buckle, Inc. operates 131 retail apparel stores in 18 states. The company's common shares are traded on the NASDAQ National Market System under the symbol BKLE.
