THE BON-TON STORES ANNOUNCES OCTOBER SALES YORK, Penn., Nov. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc.
(NASDAQ: BONT), announced today that total sales for the four weeks ended Oct. 31, 1992 increased 15.1 percent to $25.9 million from the $22.5 million reported for the same period last year. Comparable store sales increased 2.1 percent.
Sales for the thirty-nine weeks ended Oct. 31, 1992 rose 9.4 percent to $212.5 million from $194.2 million in the year ago period. Comparable store sales increased by 0.3 percent during the period. Michael L. Gleim, The Bon-Ton's senior executive vice president and chief administrative officer, commented, "Although we are taking a very cautious approach to managing our inventories, we are encouraged by the strength of our day-to-day business. We believe that our long-term merchandising and marketing strategies remain sound." With the recent openings of new stores in Watertown, N.Y. and Johnstown, Penn., The Bon-Ton now operates 36 department stores in secondary markets in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York and West Virginia.
