THE BON-TON STORES ANNOUNCES MAY SALES YORK, Pa., June 4 /PRNewswire/ -- The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc.
(NASDAQ: BONT), announced today that total sales for the four weeks ended May 30, 1992 increased 1.8 percent to $25.3 million from the $24.8 million reported for the same period last year. Comparable store sales decreased 6.6 percent.
The year-to-date sales for the 17 weeks ended May 30, 1992 rose 7.8 percent to $89.5 million from $83.0 million in the year ago period. Comparable store sales were even with the same period last year. Michael Gleim, the Bon-Ton's senior executive vice president and chief administrative officer, commented, "the adverse weather condition continue to impact our sales results. This month was particularly challenging as we were up against significant sales gains on 29 percent in May 1991, and 7 percent in May, 1990." The Bon-Ton now operates 34 full-line department stores in secondary markets in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York and West Virginia.
