THE BON-TON STORES ANNOUNCES JULY SALES YORK, Pa., Aug. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc.
(NASDAQ: BONT), announced today that total sales for the four weeks ended Aug. 1, 1992, increased 16.9 percent to $18.9 million from the $16.1 million reported for the same period last year. Comparable store sales increased 6.7 percent.
Sales for the 26 weeks ended Aug. 1, 1992, rose 9.5 percent to $134.2 million from $122.5 million in the year-ago period. Comparable store sales were up 0.9 percent. Michael Gleim, The Bon-Ton's senior executive vice president and chief administrative officer, commented, "During July we were successful in significantly reducing our inventory of spring and summer merchandise to our planned levels." The Bon-Ton now operates 34 department stores in secondary markets in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York and West Virginia.
