THE BON-TON STORES ANNOUNCES AUGUST SALES YORK, Pa., Sept. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc.
(NASDAQ: BONT), announced today that total sales for the four weeks ended Aug. 29, 1992, increased 9.7 percent to $24.4 million from the $22.3 million reported for the same period last year. Comparable store sales increased 1.5 percent.
Sales for the 30 weeks ended Aug. 29, 1992, rose 9.6 percent to $158.6 million from $144.8 million in the year-ago period. Comparable store sales were up 1 percent. Michael Gleim, the Bon-Ton's senior executive vice president and chief administrative officer, commented, "Over the past four weeks we continued to concentrate on reducing inventories of warm weather merchandise through sales promotions and price reductions. While the back-to-school selling season falls later this year than last, we are encouraged by the initial customer reaction to our fall merchandise." The Bon-Ton operates 34 department stores in secondary markets in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York and West Virginia.
