THE BOMBAY COMPANY ANNOUNCES SALES INCREASE FOR JANUARY
THE BOMBAY COMPANY ANNOUNCES SALES INCREASE FOR JANUARY FORT WORTH, Texas, Jan. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- The Bombay Company, Inc.
(AMEX: BBA), reported today that sales for the four-week period ended Jan. 26, 1992, increased 43 percent to $13,183,000 from $9,248,000 for the same period last year. Same store sales for stores in existence more than one year increased 31 percent. For the 30-week period ended Jan. 26, 1992, total sales increased 24 percent to $108,395,000 from $87,481,000 while same store sales increased 11 percent.
Robert E. M. Nourse, president and chief executive officer, stated that part of the increase can be attributed to last January's weak performance at the time of the Gulf War in which same store sales declined 15 percent. Notwithstanding the relatively easy comparisons, however, he was especially pleased with the magnitude of the gain, noting that it is a continuation of the sales momentum which began late in the holiday selling season. The Bombay Company, Inc., is a specialty retailer marketing antique reproduction furniture, prints and accessories through a network of 333 stores in the United States and Canada. -0- 1/28/92 /CONTACT: Robert E.
