THE BIRMINGHAM POST: Golden apple.

Not since Eris's Apple of Discord, or perhaps the Garden of Eden, can a simple piece of fruit have been the cause of so much trouble.

One discarded apple thrown onto a pavement, combined with the stubbornness of the alleged perpetrator Kate Badger, has ended up costing the taxpayer thousands of pounds.

And there's the possibility of more costly legal action if Mrs Badger's friend who was responsible for the act of littering doesn't pay the pounds 60 fine.

This must have been the most expensive apple in history.
