THE BIG BREAK DOWN; GABY WEEPS AS SHE QUITS MORNING SHOW; Viewers see sad beauty cry on air.
The blonde beauty couldn't hold back the tears as she ended her early- morning reign after three years and nearly 800 shows.
"It's a very sad day for me," she said. "Everyone's been really fantastic and I shall miss the whole team.
"These have been the best three years ever, but I'm glad I'm not getting up at 3.30 in the morning again."
That exhausting honour goes to new girl Zoe Ball, who takes over from Gaby on Monday.
The 25-year-old children's TV presenter admits Gaby will be a hard act to follow. She said: "When I got the job she gave me a big hug."
There were more tears at an impromptu party for 33-year-old Gaby following the programme.
Guests Gillian Taylforth and Barbara Windsor from EastEnders also wept. "Everyone was overcome with emotion," said an insider. "Once Gaby started crying, we all did." She was also still upset that her agent, Peter Plant, could not be there to see her final broadcast. He died on Christmas Day after a three-year battle against bone cancer.
At the party, TV pals showed Gaby a video of out-takes, including some of her swearing. And her former co-host, Radio 1 DJ Chris Evans, couldn't resist playing a prank on her.
He joked that he once had a secret affair with Gaby - who is happily married to 32-year-old musician Colin Peel - and that she was pregnant. Gaby now starts work on a prime-time chat show as part of her new pounds 1.5 million contract with Channel 4.
