THE BANK OF CALIFORNIA TO CONTRIBUTE $50,000 TO
NEWLY ESTABLISHED 'REBUILD LOS ANGELES' FUND
SAN FRANCISCO, May 6 /PRNewswire/ -- The Bank of California, N.A., a wholly owned subsidiary of The Mitsubishi Bank, Limited (NYSE: MBK), today said it will contribute $50,000 to "Rebuild Los Angeles," a non- profit public benefit corporation established May 2 by Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley. The corporation was commissioned to lead the rebuilding of Los Angeles in the wake of the violence that swept the city last week. Peter V. Ueberroth, the former baseball commissioner, was appointed by Bradley to head the relief organization.
Yasumasa Gomi, chairman and chief executive officer of the San Francisco-based bank, issued a call to action for other public and private companies to join the bank's lead in contributing much-needed dollars to help the city recover from last week's tragedy.
"The neighborhoods of Los Angeles that were impacted by the disturbances can be restored, but only if critically needed help can be offered by the business community at large. We're happy to contribute."
Gomi said that Mitsubishi Bank, as The Bank of California's parent company and the world's fourth-largest bank, is considering a contribution to a variety of local agencies that will dedicate themselves to rebuilding the affected neighborhoods in Los Angeles.
"We hope to have an announcement on that in the near future," Gomi said.
The Bank of California, the first incorporated banking institution in the West, is the state's fifth-largest bank, with $8.5 billion in assets. It operates 51 banking offices in California, Washington and Oregon, 11 of which are in Los Angeles County.
