 THE 1992 NEW YORK AUTO SHOW OPENS TO MORE THAN
 ONE MILLION CAR LOVERS FROM APRIL 18 TO 26
 EVENT: The 1992 New York International Automobile Show -- the nation's largest automotive exhibition and New York's biggest annual event -- is an important showing of new models, futuristic concept cars and safety and environmental exhibits.
 WHEN: Thursday, April 16 - Press Preview 8 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
 Friday, April 17, 8 a.m. - 11 p.m. - Press Preview.
 Friday, April 17, 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. - Celebrity/Charity opening
 Saturday, April 18, 11 a.m. - show opens to the public
 Show runs through Sunday, April 26.
 WHERE: Jacob K. Javits Convention Center on 11th Avenue between 34th and 39th streets. NYP parking available on 39th street between 10th and 11th Avenues.
 HIGHLIGHTS:
 1) Responsible motoring theme -- Unprecedented collection of safety and environmental-related exhibits.
 2) More than 1,200 - 1992, 93 and 94 cars, trucks and specialty vehicles from 10 countries.
 3) 10 vehicles being introduced including vehicles from Cadillac, BMW, Volkswagen, Vector and IsoRivolta.
 4) 19 alternative-fuel production and concept vehicles.
 5) 20 future concept vehicles.
 POSSIBLE STORIES:
 1) The economy, the auto industry and how it affects consumers.
 2) International competition/globalization of the auto industry.
 3) Safety technology and how it can save your life.
 4) Electric/alternative fuel vehicles -- what we will be driving to protect our environment.
 5) Gains in fuel efficiency -- the 100-mile-per-gallon car.
 6) What are the latest styling/design trends?
 7) Concept vehicles -- what they say about our future.
 8) The world's most fantastic, expensive exotic cars.
 9) What cars are hot sellers and good deals in a cold market?
 10) Traffic safety what the government, automakers and the private sector are doing to improve the safety of driving.
 11) New product trends -- luxury cars/sport utilities/minivans.
 12) New York and nation to adopt California emission standards.
 All day April 16, and in the morning on the 17th, press conferences and special events will be held at the Javits Center.
 THURSDAY, April 16:
 9 a.m. -- Industry roundtable breakfast -- "The Difficult Decade."
 10:15 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. -- Industry press conferences.
 4 p.m. -- Design symposium -- "Driving into The Next Decade."
 FRIDAY, April 17:
 9 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. -- Industry press conferences.
 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. -- Celebrity/charity opening and press preview (Local celebrities will cut the ribbon at 11 a.m., April 17 for the Charity Preview benefiting the Ronald McDonald House and Mayor Dinkin's Increase the Peace program.)
