THAILAND'S "THE WORLD, OUR GUEST" PROMOTION A SUCCESS; GOVERNOR OF
THE TOURISM AUTHORITY OF THAILAND LAUDS NATION'S TRAVEL INDUSTRY
BANGKOK, Thailand, Aug. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Thailand's special "The World, Our Guest" promotion, held August 12 in honor of the 60th birthday of Her Majesty the Queen of Thailand, was considered a resounding success by the 11,500 tourists who arrived in the country that day.
The one-day US$3 million program was designed to illustrate the many and varied attractions of Thailand as a destination, rather than to motivate people to visit Thailand on that day in particular. The return on the industry's investment is expected to be long-term.
Tourism Authority of Thailand Governor Dharmnoon Prachuabmoh strongly commended the unprecedented cooperation of all sectors of the nation's travel industry and thanked all those who participated in the promotion.
During the one-day promotion foreign visitors from around the world benefitted from special offers such as free hotel accommodations, sightseeing tours and domestic air travel as well as discounts on shopping, dining and entertainment. Thousands of hotel room-nights were given away free by 118 hotels nationwide. Thai Airways International also provided 500 free domestic flights, tour companies provided free sightseeing tours and over 500 shops and restaurants provided a wide range of discounts.
Tourists' comments on both the promotion and the special welcoming events ranged from "very good" to "fantastic". "The best part was the free hotel rooms," said Nancy Judd of Claremont, California. "The Queen's birthday is the part I will remember -- the festivities and the flowers looked really neat. It was exciting to be here today."
"The World, Our Guest" promotion was a very positive step in the continuing campaign to revitalize Thailand's tourism industry and broaden the country's appeal as one of the world's leading holiday destinations," said Mr. Dharmnoon. "It was truly a national effort".
"It represented a very worthwhile investment of one day's revenue in order to bring returns for the industry in the future. The participants provided not only a wide range of offers and discounts but also gave of their time and staff to ensure the success of the program. Thailand's travel industry can be proud of what was accomplished with the "The World, Our Guest"."
