TEXTRON NAMES RICHARD A. MCWHIRTER EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT AND CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

 PROVIDENCE, R.I., Jan. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Textron (NYSE: TXT) has named Richard A. McWhirter executive vice president and chief financial officer, James F. Hardymon, Textron's chairman, president and chief executive officer, announced today.
 McWhirter, 58, previously served as senior vice president and secretary. He replaces Dennis G. Little, 57, who left the company to pursue personal interests.
 As executive vice president and chief financial officer, McWhirter will be responsible for several corporate office functions including controller, treasurer, tax, management information systems, and environmental, health and safety and risk management.
 A native of Glendale Calif., he earned a BA degree from Michigan State University and completed advanced management programs at Harvard Business School and Northwestern University.
 He began his business career as an accountant with Ex-Cell-o Corporation, Troy, Mich., in 1959 and rose to the position of senior vice president -- finance before Textron acquired Ex-Cell-O in 1986.
 At Textron, he became senior vice president -- financial controls in 1986, senior vice president -- insurance and environmental affairs in 1988 and senior vice president and secretary in 1991.
 Textron is a multi-industry company with operations focused in three business sectors: Aerospace Technology, Commercial Products and Financial Services.
