 TEXTRON NAMES NEW CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
 PROVIDENCE, R.I., Sept. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Textron, Inc. (NYSE: TXT)


has named Lewis B. Campbell as executive vice president and chief operating officer, James F. Hardymon, president and chief executive officer, announced today.
 Campbell, 46 will fill the vacancy left by the untimely death last March of John S. Kleban. The appointment is effective immediately.
 Commenting on the appointment, Hardymon said, "We are indeed pleased to have acquired the services of such a proven and talented executive. We expect his hands-on operating experience to benefit all segments of our operations, as we continue to focus on improving our operating fundamentals."
 Campbell has been vice president of General Motors and general manager of its GMC Truck Division since 1991.
 He began his career at GM at the company's Inland Division in 1968 where he held various positions in product design, engineering and manufacturing.
 He later was technical director, manufacturing development--GM Technical Group, general manufacturing manager, Rochester Products Division, manufacturing manager, Chevrolet - Pontiac - GM of Canada Group and executive director, GM-UAW Quality Network--Quality and Reliability and Service Parts Operation Group.
 He served as vice president of General Motors and general manager of the Flint Automotive Division Buick - Oldsmobile - Cadillac Group from 1988 to 1991.
 Campbell received a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Duke University and attended the advanced general management program, Harvard International School, Switzerland. He was awarded an honorary doctor of science degree from the University of Alabama in 1985.
 Textron is a multi-industry company with operations focused in three business sectors--Aerospace Technology, Commercial Products and Financial Services.
