TEXTRON NAMES LEWIS B. CAMPBELL PRESIDENT & CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER

 PROVIDENCE, R.I., Oct. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- The board of directors of Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) has elected Lewis B. Campbell president and chief operating officer and a director of Textron Inc. effective Jan. 1, 1994.
 Campbell, 47, joined Textron in September 1992 as executive vice president and chief operating officer, from General Motors where he had been general manager of its GMC Truck Division and a vice president of General Motors.
 James F. Hardymon, 58, chairman, president and chief executive officer will continue as chairman and chief executive officer after Jan. 1.
 Hardymon, commenting on Campbell's new appointment said "Lewis Campbell is a very talented executive with excellent experience and a high energy level." He added that Campbell "is a hands-on executive who understands Textron and has been effective in taking advantage of a wide variety of opportunities for continuous improvement in our multi-industry company."
 Campbell began his career at GM at the company's Inland Division in 1968 where he held various positions in product design, engineering and manufacturing.
 He later was technical director, manufacturing development -- GM Technical Group; general manufacturing manager, Rochester Products Division; manufacturing manager, Chevrolet -- Pontiac -- GM of Canada Group and executive director, GM-UAW Quality Network -- Quality and Reliability and Service Parts Operation Group.
 He served as vice president of General Motors and general manager of the Flint Automotive Division Buick -- Oldsmobile -- Cadillac Group from 1988 to 1991.
 Campbell received a BS degree in mechanical engineering from Duke University and attended the advanced general management program, Harvard International School, Switzerland. He was awarded an honorary doctor of science degree from the University of Alabama in 1985.
 Textron is a multi-industry company with operations focused in three business sectors -- Aerospace Technology, Commercial Products and Financial Services.
