TEXSCAN CHOSEN TO SUPPLY AD INSERTION EQUIPMENT TO NEW YORK INTERCONNECT
EL PASO, Texas, April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Texscan Corporation (AMEX: TSX) announced today that it has been selected by the New York Interconnect to supply advanced equipment to insert regional and national advertising spots into cable television networks for more than 20 local cable systems serving the New York City, Long Island, New Jersey, and Westchester/Upstate New York/Fairfield County, Conn., regions. This equipment will deliver regional television advertising via satellite to over 40 headend locations in the metropolitan area, supplementing commercials sold by the local ad sales organizations within each system. Equipment and services purchased from Texscan's MSI subsidiary in Salt Lake City to complete the system are expected to exceed $2 million.
At each headend, a Texscan M-Series video controller automates the recording of a satellite feed to Super-VHS tape machines and controls subsequent playback and ad insertion into 10 cable networks. Texscan MSI will also supply an editExpress (TM) compiler, data communications and video playback equipment for the system control center operated by Cable Networks, Incorporated (CNI).
"The New York Interconnect will become one of the largest and most automated systems for insertion of commercial advertising in cable television programming," William H. Lambert, chairman, president and CEO of Texscan, said, in announcing the selection. "We are gratified to have been chosen to provide the insertion equipment for this system. Local and regional advertising on cable is rapidly becoming an important source of revenue to cable operators. Our MSI operation is the industry leader in providing this equipment and we are moving ahead with research and development into more advanced systems to serve our customers."
William P. Dawson, vice president and general manager of Texscan MSI, added, "Our M-Series video controller is the heart of this system. It features video source switching to share resources among many channels, with built-in test and remote diagnostic functions to enhance reliability. And its modular design provides an open architecture for future growth, including additional channel coverage and digital video."
Texscan Corporation, headquartered in El Paso, is a leading manufacturer of electronic advertising insertion equipment and distribution electronics for the cable television industry. The company also is a large-scale fiber optic systems integrator for road and railway applications in Europe.
