TEXAS EASTERN TRANSMISSION CORPORATION TO PROVIDE FIRM SERVICE TO FOUR NORTHEASTERN UTILITIES

HOUSTON, July 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Texas Eastern Transmission Corporation, a subsidiary of Panhandle Eastern Corporation (NYSE: PEL), will provide approximately 18 million cubic feet per day (MMcf/d) of firm natural gas transportation service to four Northeastern utility companies in the first expansion under the Flex-XTM flexible expansion program.
Flex-XTM represents a commitment to new expansion projects totaling up to 700 MMcf/d of firm transportation capacity over a 10-year period on Panhandle Eastern's four interconnected natural gas pipelines: Texas Eastern Transmission Corporation, Algonquin Gas Transmission Company, Panhandle Eastern Pipe Line Company and Trunkline Gas Company. Flex-XTM is coordinated by 1 Source Corporation, a Panhandle Eastern subsidiary.
This expansion was initiated for shippers requiring additional firm transportation from storage in 1994. Discussions with these customers began prior to the current Flex-XTM open season, which offers 1995 service, to accommodate the timing needs of these firm shippers. With FERC approval, Texas Eastern will provide firm transportation service from receipt points located at Oakford, Pa., to the requested delivery points for Philadelphia Electric Company, UGI Utilities, Inc., The Brooklyn Union Gas Company and Elizabethtown Gas Company. Texas Eastern has entered into binding precedent agreements for this service with these customers.
Texas Eastern will build 9.3 miles of pipeline looping at an estimated cost of $18.1 million. Construction is expected to begin in June 1994 with construction completed by Nov. 1, 1994.
Panhandle Eastern Corporation, America's natural gas transportation company, operates one of the nation's largest interstate natural gas pipeline systems, providing natural gas transportation and related services to the Midwest and Northeast markets.
