WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., March 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Texaco Inc. (NYSE: TX),

through subsidiaries, today signed petroleum concessions with the Ministry of Industry of the Kingdom of Thailand covering three offshore blocks in the Gulf of Thailand.
Thailand's Ministry of Industry awarded Texaco Exploration (Thailand) II Limited and its co-concessionaire (50-50), FINA Exploration (Thailand) Limited, a petroleum concession for oil and gas exploration of block B11/32 in the Gulf of Thailand. The Texaco subsidiary will serve as operator of the block. Block B11/32 covers an area of 14,478 square kilometers (5,590 square miles). A work program covering the first six years includes 5,000 kilometers (3,100 miles) of seismic work and the drilling of three exploratory wells.
The other petroleum concession, which was entered into by Texaco Exploration (Thailand) III Limited as sole concessionaire and operator, is for oil and gas exploration of blocks B1/32 and B3/32 in the Gulf of Thailand. The blocks comprise an area of 11,522 square kilometers (4,449 square miles). The work program covering the first six years includes 7,000 kilometers (4,350 miles) of seismic work and the drilling of two exploratory wells.
In addition to the government-awarded petroleum concessions, Texaco Exploration (Thailand) II acquired a 50-percent interest and operatorship from NOMECO Oil & Gas Co. in its petroleum concession for block 5441/32 AB. The block comprises approximately 1,520 square kilometers (585 square miles) onshore in the Khorat Plateau region, 337 kilometers (210 miles) northeast of Bangkok. As operator, Texaco Exploration (Thailand) II will execute a work program for the first six years, including some seismic reprocessing and the drilling of four exploratory wells.
Dr. William P. Doyle, president of Texaco's Middle East/Far East Division and director and chairman of Texaco Exploration (Thailand) II and III, in commenting on the signing of these concessions, said, "Although this is Texaco's first upstream venture in Thailand since the 1970s, we have had a continuous presence here through our Caltex affiliate since 1947 in manufacturing and marketing. We are pleased to see this relationship grow." In addition to Doyle and other Texaco officials, members of the Ministry of Industry, along with other distinguished government officials and representatives of FINA, participated in the Bangkok signing ceremony.
