TESTDRIVE SELLS MAJORITY STAKE TO R.R. DONNELLEY

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Oct. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- TestDrive Corp. has sold a majority position in the company to R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co. (NYSE: DNY), Chicago.
According to TestDrive President Nathan Schulhof, this strategic relationship with R.R. Donnelley will further strengthen TestDrive's role as an innovative leader in the emerging "try-before-you-buy" software distribution market.
"In February we became the first company to publicly announce our intent to use CD-ROM as a medium for the trial and distribution of mass market software," Schulhof said. "Later this month, we'll be the first one out with such a mass market product. Having R.R. Donnelley as a partner will assure that we continue to lead in this emerging marketplace."
Grant Duers, R.R. Donnelley senior vice president, said, "We see a tremendous opportunity to grow a new distribution channel for mass market software. We're convinced that TestDrive's approach benefits all parties -- end users, software developers, CD-ROM and computer manufacturers and resellers.
"This agreement with R.R. Donnelley provides us with the marketing, manufacturing, and financial stability to become a major player in the electronic distribution arena."
TestDrive's first CD-ROM Super Store(TM) will ship in October 1993 and will be bundled with the December 1993 issue of IDG's Multimedia World magazine which will ship more than 200,000 copies. Among the companies offering fully functional software programs for trial and electronic purchase on the initial TestDrive CD are Borland International, Broderbund Software, Caere, Intuit, Lotus Development, Symantec, and WordPerfect.
"TestDrive's technology and creative skills put R.R. Donnelley in a very good position to answer the needs of our customers, software publishers and personal computer manufacturers, by providing a more direct method of manufacturing and distributing software products to their customers," Duers said.
R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co. is a world leader in managing, reproducing, and distributing print and digital information.
