TERADYNE INTRODUCES NEW TEST SYSTEM, REPORTS ORDERS
BOSTON, Mass., March 25 /PRNewswire/ -- At a meeting held for securities analysts here today, Teradyne (NYSE: TER) introduced its new A580 Mixed-Signal Test System, while disclosing the receipt of orders totaling $25 million for the system. Among 12 companies who have placed orders are Analog Devices, Hitachi, IBM, ITT, Motorola, NEC, Texas Instruments, and VTC.
The A580 features digital speeds up to 200 MHz and up to 192 digital pins, plus a wide range of analog performance, covering currents of 10 picoamperes to 100 amperes, voltages to 1 kilovolt, frequencies to 4 GHz, and distortion as low as -120 dB.
Speaking to analysts, Vice President George d'Arbeloff, manager of the Industrial/Consumer Division, noted the new system's use of a proprietary technology combining the high performance of ELC circuits with the low-cost of CMOS. "Our 'E/MOS' approach gives us four times the digital speed and six times the density of existing all-ECL systems," he said. The 'E/MOS" technology was first used in Teradyne's J971 VSLI Test System, intoduced in 1990, and is also used in the company's recently introduced j990 series of Memory Test Systems.
Teradyne has already begun to ship the A580 and plans to increase production rapidly throughout the year, according to d'Arbeloff. "Based on the strong initial acceptance of the system and industry projections for strong growth in the mixed-signal area, we are planning one of the most aggressive product ramp-ups in the company's history," he said.
The company also introduced a companion system, the A570, featuring up to 128 digital pins and a maximum digital speed of 100 MHz. First shipments are scheduled for early 1993.
Teradyne is a major producer of automatic test systems and connection systems, with 1991 sales of $509 million. Its stock is lsited on the New York Stock Exchange.
