TERADYNE AWARDED BACKPLANE CONTRACT FOR MOTOROLA CELLULAR SYSTEMS

 BOSTON, Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Teradyne, Inc. (NYSE: TER) has been awarded a $12.5 million contract for backplane and card cage assemblies by the European Cellular Infrastructure Division (ECID) of Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT).
 Under the terms of the contract -- the largest single order for such products in the company's history -- Teradyne's Connection Systems Division will supply assemblies from its Dublin, Ireland manufacturing facility to support the rapid expansion of the Motorola GSM Cellular Telephone System in Europe.
 The backplane assembly, based on Teradyne's HD+ multi-row, high-performance connection system, provides all necessary signal interconnection and power distribution functions for the digital heart of the Motorola GSM base stations.
 Teradyne Connection Systems, based in Nashua, N.H., is the world's leading supplier of custom backplane systems for the electronics and telecommunications industries.
