TENNIS: Trends set to continue in ladies' semis; SPREADWISE.

Byline: By Dave Horgan

HISTORY has favoured the seller in recent French Open ladies semi-finals with only Svetlana Kuznetsova's 33-game marathon with Nicole Vaidisova in 2006 coming anywhere near to topping today's total games spreads.

The make-ups of the other seven semi-finals to be played in the last four years were 16, 15, 17, 14, 17, 18 and 16, all well short of the sell prices for today's encounters.

And it's not as if these matches were influenced by the presence of any surprise packages.

The final four in these years was generally composed of the best players in draw and it would seem that in these situations one or other of the players tends to grasp the nettle and produce a decisive performance.
