UNION, N.J., Nov. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Robert S. Schiffman, president of Tenney Engineering, Inc. (AMEX: TNY), announced today that Tenney had received a demand from the Sheet Metal Workers' National Pension Fund, in accordance with the Mutliemployer Pension Plan Amendments Act of 1980, that Tenney make payment of $529,743.28 as a result of Tenney's withdrawal from the Fund. The demand is for 18 quarterly payments of $33,879.28 except for a final payment of $32,797.59, with the initial payment to be made by Jan. 19, 1994. The demand also states that the amount due is subject to adjustment for performance of the Fund during 1992.
Mr. Schiffman stated that withdrawal from the Fund was due to Tenney's restructuring of its business in December 1992, whereby it ceased manufacturing of environmental test equipment at its Union, N.J. facility in February 1993. Concurrently, Tenney Engineering licensed another manufacturer to produce such equipment under the Tenney name.
Mr. Schiffman further stated that Tenney is not at this time in a position to comment on the validity of the demand or amounts which may be due to the Fund. He further stated that Tenney had engaged counsel to review the matter and to contest the demand.
Tenney's financial statements at Sept. 30, 1993, did not contain any provision for any withdrawal liability since the amount of liability, if any, could not be determined.
Tenney Engineering, Inc., engineers, manufactures, and markets high- technology environmental and simulation test equipment and vacuum systems.
