TENNECO GAS, LEVIATHAN GAS TO BUILD GATHERING PIPELINE

HOUSTON, June 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Tenneco Gas and Leviathan Gas Pipeline Partners, L.P. have signed a letter of intent to create a joint venture that will build natural gas gathering facilities offshore Louisiana. Located in the Viosca Knoll and Main Pass areas, these facilities will access significant new reserves being developed in the Outer Continental Shelf.
"This joint venture project will serve offshore producers who are expanding their development of deepwater reserves to provide additional sources of stable, long-term gas supply to premium markets," said Steve Chesebro', Tenneco Gas president and chief operating officer.
"This agreement continues Leviathan's goal of expanding gathering facilities to encourage additional development of important reserves in the undeveloped portions of the Flextrend and the deepwater areas of the OCS," said Thomas P. Tatham, Leviathan's chief executive officer.
Houston-based Tenneco Gas supplies 14 percent of U.S. natural gas needs through sales and transportation along its 20,000-mile pipeline system. The company owns and operates the largest offshore natural gas pipeline system in the Gulf of Mexico. It is a unit of Tenneco Inc. (NYSE: TGI), a diversified industrial corporation with other major business interests in farm and construction equipment, shipbuilding, automotive parts, packaging and chemicals.
