TELXON REVISES F93 SECOND QUARTER ESTIMATES

TELXON REVISES F93 SECOND QUARTER ESTIMATES
AKRON, Ohio, Oct. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Telxon Corporation

(NASDAQ: TLXN) today said that it has come to the company's attention that since the opening of the market this morning, trading volume has been unusually heavy, and the price of the company's stock has fluctuated from an opening price of $20 per share to a low of $15-3/4, with the stock trading at $16-7/8 when the company requested that trading be halted. It is the company's belief that today's activity is a result of the report issued today by a Lehman Brothers analyst who follows the company's stock. The analyst's report, while generally positive and continuing to recommend these shares, stated that "the chances of a near-term pop have declined."
The report also referred to "domestic price competition and 'apprehension' about European sales for a slightly less robust outlook for the December quarter." Notwithstanding this, the analyst's earnings projections were not changed in the report from prior estimates.
However, management now believes such earnings estimates generally predicted, by analysts, for the second quarter, ended Sept. 30, 1992, to be in a range of $.30 to $.36 per share, should be revised downward to reflect certain factors that have recently come to management's attention. These factors relate to delays in the completion of sales, aggregating approximately $1.2 million, from the second quarter into the third quarter; as well as, the negative impact of foreign currency fluctuations, primarily in Italy.
The above-referenced factors will, it is anticipated, lower probable earnings for the quarter to the range of $.24 to $.28 per share, on consolidated revenues of approximately $66 million. The company expects to release its definitive quarterly results on schedule on Oct. 20, 1992.
