TELXON CLARIFIES FISCAL 1993 OUTLOOK AND BUSINESS TRENDS

TELXON CLARIFIES FISCAL 1993 OUTLOOK AND BUSINESS TRENDS
AKRON, Ohio, Oct. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- In view of the highly volatile and downwardly fluctuating price coupled with high trading volume of Telxon Corporation's (NASDAQ/NMS: TLXN) common stock during the last two days (Oct. 8-9), Telxon's management, in a singular action and in order to provide the market with additional information to quell rumors and alleviate price fluctuation, has determined to issue a forecast of revenue and earnings for the fiscal year ending March 31, 1993.
Although Telxon's management earlier in the year had affirmed Wall Street estimates for fiscal year 1993 of annual revenue in a range of $265 million to $275 million and corresponding earnings per share in a range of $1.35 to $1.45 per share, the company at this time is forecasting, based on currently known facts, fiscal year 1993 revenue of $255 to $265 million and earnings per share of $1.15 to $1.20. This forecast is based principally on current sale and gross margin expectations, as well as the recently revised second quarter earnings estimate.
"Telxon has confidence in its long-term business outlook," said Raymond D. Meyo, Telxon president and chief executive officer. "The company has increased its market share, is looking forward to a strong fiscal 1994 and fully expects to maintain its market leadership position in the hand-held and wireless data communications business."
He pointed to the recent introduction of the next generation of Telxon products, showcased October 6-8 at the Scan-Tech automatic identification industry show in Anaheim, Calif.
"These products, as well as the new POSXPRESS(TM) line of portable point-of-service products and the DATASPAN 2000(TM) spread spectrum wireless data communications system, coupled with the added wireless data communications capabilities of Telxon's Telesystems SLW Inc. subsidiary, generated tremendous customer interest," he said.
Telxon Corporation is the leading provider of complete hand-held data collection systems and communications products worldwide. The company integrates advanced PTC hand-held PCs, real-time communication technology, bar code scanning and application software -- combined with the highest levels of service and support -- to offer customers in retailing, warehousing, manufacturing, distribution, logistics and a variety of industries complete data collection solutions.
