TELTECH NAMED TO PROVIDE TECHNOLOGY ACCESS SERVICES FOR ALABAMA PROGRAM
Program Will Positively Impact Economic Development in Alabama
MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Teltech Resource Network announced today that the company has been named to provide the service delivery for an Alabama technology access program. The effort is designed to promote the survival and growth of the state's small businesses by providing them with needed technical and business assistance.
The idea for the Alabama program came from a 1991 federal initiative sponsored by the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Small Business Administration (SBA). Matching grants were offered to help selected states fund small company access to online technical and business information services and an established network of technical experts.
"An important aspect of the Alabama program is that it will help level the competitive playing field between small and large, as well as rural and urban companies," said Richard C. Anderson, Jr., Teltech chief executive officer. "Our experience indicates this resource can have a significant impact on such key areas of economic development as creating new jobs and reducing small business mortality rates." The company has been hired to implement similar programs in 10 other states.
Although Alabama was not selected to receive federal funding, the state decided to proceed on its own. Its program is modeled after an award-winning Minnesota initiative called Minnesota Project Outreach, for which Teltech also provides the service delivery. A recent independent survey found that companies involved in the Minnesota program expect service usage to produce a mean increase of $770,000 in current and future profits.
Teltech offers two key services: an expert network where clients speak directly via telephone with leading specialists in more than 5,600 technical areas; and a literature searching service whereby a Teltech searcher accesses the world's major databases while the client is in simultaneous telephone and computer screen contact.
Teltech is headquartered in Minneapolis. Among its clients are scientists and engineers at more than half of the Fortune 500 companies. Teltech was named to the Inc. 500 list of the country's fastest growing private companies.
