TELLABS AND FUJITSU TO COOPERATE AT WAVE '92 IN FIRST SONET MULTIVENDOR MID-SPAN MEET BETWEEN A DIGITAL CROSS-CONNECT SYSTEM AND A MULTIPLEXER
Tellabs will unveil its mid-span meet capability March 10-12 at WAVE '92 in booth 845, Hall B, in the Baltimore Convention Center.
Tellabs, Inc. today announced that it will cooperate with Fujitsu Network Transmission Systems, Inc. to demonstrate the first SONET multivendor mid-span meet between a digital cross-connect system and a multiplexer.
Transporting video traffic over what is called the WAVENET fiber optic network, the demonstration will occur at the WAVE '92 trade show in Baltimore, March 10 through 12. The Tellabs TITAN(R) 5500 digital cross-connect system will interface with the Fujitsu Lightwave Multiplexer (FLM) 150 for OC-3 transport of DS3 and DS1 signals. DS3 traffic will transport live and recorded video sources between the two companies' exhibits while DS1 traffic will be generated and monitored by DS1 test sets.
The TITAN 5500 system provides bandwidth management to support voice, data and video services with T1, T3 and SONET networks. The design of the TITAN 5500 system includes a unique and forward-looking SONET-based architecture that combines wideband and broadband (VT and STS-1) switching in a single platform and affords non-service affecting growth to 1,024 DS3/STS-1-equivalent ports. Adding SONET ports to existing TITAN 5500 systems is an efficient, cost-effective way to migrate today's network to SONET. The TITAN 5500 system provides flexible SONET bandwidth management, including ring interconnections, in a multivendor SONET environment.
The Fujitsu Lightwave Multiplexer 150 is an OC-3 terminal incorporating Fujitsu's SONET Phase II Plus upgrade package, providing integrated X.25 protocols and TL1 messages for OS compatibility. The FLM 150 is Fujitsu's second generation SONET OC-3 multiplexer designed to operate in loop, interoffice and customer premise environments.
Fujitsu Network Transmission Systems, Inc., headquartered in Richardson, Texas, develops, engineers and manufactures a variety of high-speed fiber optic transport and digital loop access systems, as well as outside plant cabinets. The company recently completed construction of a 400,000-square-foot facility in Richardson to ensure increased responsiveness to the technological demands posed by the telecommunications industry. Fujitsu's global expertise in computer, telecommunications and semiconductor technologies, coupled with the company's broad product experience, continues to serve customers' needs for flexibility and performance.
