TELEX INTRODUCES THE FIRST TRULY PORTABLE MULTIMEDIA LCD PRESENTATION SYSTEM

MINNEAPOLIS, July 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Telex Communications, Inc. has added the industry's first truly portable multimedia display system to its family of MagnaByte(R) projection panels.
The MagnaByte M2x Projection Panel is the only LCD panel which makes it easy to add sound to your presentations, because it features a built- in audio system with a powerfully, acoustically tuned, internally mounted speaker and amplifier. What makes the M2x even more unusual is its ability to be upgraded for Windows(TM) digital audio support by the user at any time. To make this feature possible, Telex has incorporated a proprietary system interface bus which allows the user to simply plug in the MagnaByte MediaCard(TM) Options when an upgrade is desired. This revolutionary MagnaByte M-BUS(TM) system eliminates the "planned obsolescence" associated with many LCD projection panel products. The first two option cards to be introduced for the M2x include the MagnaByte MSA(TM) Digital Audio adapter and the MagnaByte MVA(TM) NTSC/PAL video playback card.
The M2x is the first LCD presentation panel to incorporate the ability to playback and record Windows digital WAV files from any IBM compatible PC. Now users with Notebook or other portable computers can add audio to their presentations without any additional hardware. The MSA digital sound MediaCard Option works through the parallel port of any PC and fully supports all audio features Windows can provide. The card can be purchased already installed in the M2x, or it can be added later.
When the MVA video MediaCard Option is included (either as an upgrade or an installed option), the M2x panel displays full motion images in full color (614,000 available colors), without requiring external adapters, and is NTSC and PAL-compatible. Laserdisc players, VCRs, or similar sources may be connected to the M2x for video projection (with the accompanying audio), while controlling the presentation display from one location.
Because the M2x includes audio, it also gives the presenter the flexibility to project his or her voice through the M2x speaker, with the addition of a Telex ENG-1 wireless microphone system. (The M2x also accepts external speakers, if desired.) M2x systems are available for IBM/Windows and Apple Macintosh(R) computers.
"This extraordinary combination of capabilities in a single projection panel represents a breakthrough for the presentation market," stated Gary Fisher, marketing manager for Telex. "Now our customers can exhibit high quality presentations without hauling a lot of hardware. It's the simplest, most effective way to get your message across."
The M2x includes an attractive soft-side carrying case, remote control (complete systems only), as well as these accessories: VGA video cable (IBM compatible units) or Mac video cable (Macintosh units), Mac monitor cable (Macintosh units), two audio line input cables: 1/8"-1/8" (3.2 mm-3.2 mm) and RCA-1/8" (RCA-3.2 mm), and 110-240 Vac, 50-60 Hz power supply and cable; Digital audio option also includes parallel port interface cable (IBM compatible units). Video option also includes RCA-RCA video cable.
In addition, free Macromedia(R) ACTION!(TM) SE Presentation software for Windows or Apple Macintosh is included with every purchase. ACTION! makes it possible to create full multimedia presentations in minutes.
Product dimensions are 14" (356 mm) wide by 12" (305 mm) deep by 2.25" (57.1 mm) high (height above overhead); weight of panel less cables is 6.5 lbs (2.9 kg). The M2x basic units and MVA cards will be available for shipment during August, 1993; the MSA card has an anticipated ship date of October, 1993. The M2x carries a suggested retail price ranging from $5,195.00 to $6,485.00 depending on computer version and options selected.
