TELEVISION SPECIAL 'IMAGES & REALITIES: AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMEN' DEBUTS IN DETROIT

 DETROIT, Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- "Images & Realities, African American Women," a two-part "AT&T Presents" syndicated special that explores issues including family life, education, the influence of imagery and African American beauty, will premiere in Detroit on Sunday, Sept. 12, at 1 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 19, at 1 p.m. on WXYZ-TV, Channel 7.
 Actress Halle Berry, rap artist and actress Queen Latifah, economist Julianne Malveaux, Dr. Deborah Prothrow-Stith and Essence magazine Editor-in-Chief Susan Taylor co-host the issue-oriented documentary.
 The program has cleared 45 of the top 50 markets. According to Tom Byrnes of Coby Communications, it will be seen in more than 85 percent of all U.S. households.
 The third in the "Images & Realities" series, the special also features exclusive interviews with Poet Laureate Maya Angelou and actress Esther Rolle.
 Women who participate in the series come from both public and private sectors. They include actresses Debbie Allen, Holly Robinson and Tisha Campbell, U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), journalists Barbara Reynolds and Charlayne Hunter-Gault, singers Anita Baker and Nancy Wilson and architect Norma Sklarek.
 The 6 p.m. screening, a collaborative effort between AT&T and The National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., will take place Friday, Sept. 10, at the Fox Theatre. It will be followed by a women's forum featuring distinguished panelists including: executive director of the NAACP - Detroit Chapter, Joanne Watson, mayoral candidate Sharon McPhail, WQBH's Martha Jean "The Queen," and WJLB's Mildred Gaddis.
 The production of the "Images & Realities" series is at the top of the list of current projects for award-winning producer/director Gene Davis. To date, his specials have examined African American men and the African American family. He has announced plans for two more series, "African American People: A Celebration" for February 1994 and "African American Children" for September 1994.
