TELEPHONE AND DATA SYSTEMS, INC. ANNOUNCES FOURTH QUARTER 1993 DIVIDEND

 CHICAGO, Dec. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- The Board of Directors of Telephone and Data Systems Inc. (AMEX: TDS) has declared a fourth quarter 1993 dividend of $.085 per share, representing a 6.3% increase from the fourth quarter 1992 dividend. Payment will be made on Dec. 31, 1993, to Common and Series A Common shareowners of record on Dec. 17, 1993.

 TDS Telecommunications Corp. ("TDS Telecom"), TDS's telephone subsidiary, continues to grow revenues and customers. Operating revenues rose 13.9% to $199.8 million for the nine months ended Sept. 30, 1993, and access lines increased 33,700 to 350,600, compared to the year earlier period. Since Sept. 30, 1992, TDS Telecom has added four telephone companies and two additional exchanges serving 20,000 access lines.
 United States Cellular Corp. (AMEX: USM), TDS's 83.8%-owned cellular subsidiary, showed strong growth in roaming revenues and consolidated cellular telephones in service. For the nine months ended Sept. 30, 1993, operating revenues rose 51.0% to $175.2 million, compared to the year earlier period. Since Sept. 30, 1992, USM's customer units grew 95,100 to 254,900 customer units in total managed systems. At Sept. 30, 1993, USM owned or had the right to acquire interests in 203 cellular telephone systems, representing 23.0 million population equivalents. USM has added 26 systems and 90,900 customer units to its consolidated operations since Sept. 30, 1992.
 American Paging, Inc. ("API"), TDS's wholly owned paging subsidiary, demonstrated substantial growth in operating revenue and customers. Operating revenues rose to $55.1 million for the nine months ended Sept. 30, 1993, up 40.9% from the same period one year ago. As of Sept. 30, 1993, API served 432,900 pagers through 19 customer operations centers, representing an increase of 49.1% in pagers served. Acquisitions and internal growth accounted for 142,600 additional pagers placed in service since Sept. 30, 1992.
