TELEPANEL ANNOUNCES U.K. DISTRIBUTION PACT WITH WIRELESS
 INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES LIMITED
TORONTO, March 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Telepanel Systems Inc. (Toronto: TLS) today announced an agreement with Wireless Information Technologies Limited of Cambridge, England, for distribution of the Telepanel Electronic Shelf Labelling System in the United Kingdom.
The agreement is for an initial three year-period and contemplates the sale of over $20 million of Telepanel's proprietary wireless electronic shelf-pricing and information systems.
The United Kingdom represents a $250 million market for electronic shelf labelling. The market is highly concentrated in a number of progressive grocery, drug and do-it-yourself chains.
"The significant advantages of this technology and the potential benefits accruing to retailers from use of Telepanel shelf-edge pricing technology, are acknowledged," said Peter O'Keeffe, chairman of Wireless Information Technologies Ltd. "Our research shows a strong preference for, and move towards wireless technology. We are very pleased to be able to offer Telepanel systems and look forward to achieving significant growth as a result."
"The agreement with Wireless Information Technologies is a major step forward in our world distribution target," said Chris Skillen, president of Telepanel. "The principals of Wireless Information Technologies have been extremely successful in the sales of high- technology products to corporate customers in both the U.K. and European markets. This agreement, therefore, establishes another major beachhead for Telepanel in these key markets, and will augment Nixdorf's existing European sales efforts on our behalf in this territory," Skillen stated.
Telepanel, a Canadian company, has developed proprietary wireless electronic shelf labelling systems for use in retail stores. These systems have liquid crystal price display modules mounted on the shelf edge adjacent to the products in the store. Prices at the shelf edge are changed via a radio communications link to the store's point of sale system, thereby providing accurate and up-to-date pricing. Telepanel has 12 systems installed in supermarkets in Canada, the United States, and Europe.
