TELEMUNDO WILL LAUNCH NEW NETWORK NEWSCAST

NEW YORK, May 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Proclaiming the dawn of "a new day" for Spanish-language television programming, Joaquin Blaya, president and CEO of Telemundo Group, Inc., unveiled plans today for the May 31 launch of a new network newscast to be called Noticiero Telemundo Con Raul Peimbert ("Telemundo News with Raul Peimbert").
Blaya said Reuters Television will supply international news and video footage for the newscast. London-based Reuters Television is the world's leading supplier of news material to the television industry, with over 400 camera crews worldwide. Reuters Television is a wholly owned subsidiary of Reuters Holdings PLC (NASDAQ: RTRSY), the international news and information organization.
"Reuters' breadth of coverage from 120 bureaus worldwide make it a formidable news partner," Blaya said. "By joining forces with Reuters, we are sure to provide world-class news and information to the largest Hispanic audience possible."
Noticias Telemundo, the newly expanded Telemundo news division, also will provide late-breaking news coverage, news briefs and news specials, Blaya said.
Veteran television newsman Raul Peimbert will anchor the new Noticiero Telemundo, with two nightly editions. A former Univision anchor, Peimbert already was an established television journalist in his native Mexico, where he began his career in 1979 as a reporter for Guadalajara's Channel 4. In 1981, he moved to Veracruz, where for 10 years he anchored a prime-time newscast.
Supporting Peimbert will be an impressive array of international correspondents, reporting from the Reuters Television bureaus around the world, said Gustavo Pupo-Mayo, Telemundo's senior vice president for News and Public Affairs.
"Leading them will be a team of stellar television reporters already familiar to Hispanic television audiences in the United States," Pupo- Mayo said. These include Emmy-winning Senior Correspondent Ricardo Brown; Washington Bureau Chief Guillermo Descalzi; Central American Senior Correspondent Maria Elvira Salazar; Buenos Aires Correspondent Osvaldo Petrozzino and Los Angeles Correspondent Carlos Botifoll.
-- Ricardo Brown -- in 21 years as a reporter has traveled to 51 countries and covered almost every major international story of the past decade.
-- Guillermo Descalzi -- has covered every head of state in Latin America, traveled extensively with the Pope and interviewed every U.S. president since Jimmy Carter.
-- Maria Elvira Salazar -- has won widespread acclaim for her coverage of the peace processes in Argentina, Nicaragua and El Salvador.
-- Osvaldo Petrozzino -- has reported on almost every major South American news event of the past 10 years.
-- Carlos Botifoll -- has covered major stories in three continents, including the Libyan air raid, the Hasenfus trial, and the Soviet downing of the Korean Air Lines jet.
Noticias Telemundo will originate at the Telemundo Network's Production Center in Miami.
