TELEMATICS ANNOUNCES NEW BACKBONE SWITCH WITH SPEEDS OF UP TO 50,000 SWITCHED FRAMES PER SECOND

 FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Aug. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Performance of up to 50,000 switched frames per second, 6,000 packets per second, and 7,500 guaranteed frames per second, as well as connectivity that includes 64 T1/E1 ports, are the key attributes of the new Telematics PCP 6000 platform, announced today.
 The 6000 series, which uses new 68040-based High Performance Processors, is designed for backbone frame relay and packet switching, adaptation layer functions, and network management for large Telematis NET25 networks.
 Network Service Provider-Oriented
 "This new product provides our customer base with a very powerful new platform for their frame relay and packet based networks," said Matt Laws, director, product marketing and management for Telematics.
 "The 6000 is also optimized for adaptation layer functions within a network service provider environment where high connectivity and service differentiation are key attributes," says Mr. Laws.
 New Backplane
 The 6000 architecture includes a revamped backplane chassis which is responsible for greatly expanded connectivity. It can accept nine I/O slots, and can support up to five High Performance Processors.
 The 6000 also can support up to eight Frame Switch Modules, which provide throughput of 50,000 frames per second.
 Telematics designs, manufactures and markets computer systems and software products for voice and data communication applications and networks. It provides a full range of frame relay products under the NFX brand name, including frame relay switches, frame relay concentrators and frame relay access devices called FRADs. Telematics' NET25(R), SmartNet(R) and Digital Wideband Networks include a complete line of wide area networking products designed specifically for voice and data communications applications and networks. This includes a full range of programmable packet switching systems, frame relay systems, access communications processors and T1/E1 networking multiplexers. Telematics is also developing an extensive ATM-based product family under the NCX product line. Telematics, headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, has approximately 380 employees worldwide with facilities in five U.S. locations, Basingstoke, England, Frankfurt and Paris.
