TELEFONOS DE MEXICO, S.A. DE C.V. REPORTS RATE INCREASES

 MEXICO CITY, Dec. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Telefonos de Mexico, S.A. de C.V. (TELMEX), the Mexican telephone company, today reported that the rates charged its customers for telephone services will have the following nominal increases: an 8.7% increase in installation and measured service (per call) charges; a N$6.00 increase in monthly rent for residential lines; and a N$8.00 increase in monthly rent for commercial lines.
 Domestic and international long distance rates will remain unchanged.
 The rate adjustments were approved by the Mexican Ministry of Communications and Transportation.
