TELECOMMUNICATIONS INDUSTRY VOTES TO ESTABLISH A NEW WORKING GROUP TO ADDRESS BROADBAND CDMA

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa., Jan. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- InterDigital Communications Corporation (AMEX: IDC) announced today that the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) TR45.5 Wideband Spread Spectrum Digital Cellular Subcommittee has voted to establish a "Technology Assessment" Working Group to assess the technical feasibility of new wideband spread spectrum technology concepts for possible applications in future standards.
The objective of the group's deliberations is to submit its assessments and recommendations to the subcommittee. InterDigital said it intends to submit its Broadband Code Division Multiple Access (B-CDMA) technology to this Working Group at its first meeting in February in order to begin the process of standardization.
The group was established by a vote of 10-for, 5-against and 5-abstentions, with most of the cellular carriers voting for the establishment of the Working Group.
