TEKTRONIX TEAMS WITH EUROPEAN LEADER ROHDE & SCHWARZ; STRATEGY MORE THAN DOUBLES TELECOM MARKET POTENTIAL

WILSONVILLE, Ore., Aug. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Tektronix Inc. (NYSE: TEK) today announced that it has entered into a strategic alliance with Rohde & Schwarz GmbH & Co. KG. (Munich, Germany) which will more than double Tektronix' addressable market in the growing telecommunications market. Under the agreement, Tektronix will assume exclusive marketing, distribution, service and support responsibility for Rohde & Schwarz' RF/microwave communication and television test and measurement products in the United States. When fully implemented, Rohde & Schwarz will assume marketing, distribution, service and support responsibility for Tektronix' test and measurement, telecommunications and television test and measurement products in Eastern Europe, most of the Mediterranean and Middle East, and the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States -- republics of the former Soviet Union).
The agreement is part of Tektronix' strategy to grow by leveraging strategic alliances and partnerships with other worldwide market leaders. The Rohde & Schwarz venture compliments the strategic alliance announced in June 1993 with Advantest Corp. under which Tektronix will distribute and service Advantest's RF, microwave and communications products in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
"We will continue to partner with the industry's most respected suppliers as we continue to focus on growth segments in each of our businesses," said Dan Terpack, vice president and general manager of Tektronix' Test & Measurement Independent Business Division. "Telecommunications infrastructures are undergoing dramatic modernization in developed nations like the United States, as well as in the emerging Eastern European and Latin American regions. Both the Rohde & Schwarz and Advantest alliances illustrate how Tektronix can combine its product and distribution strengths with those of world class partners to deliver greater value to the growing telecommunications marketplace."
The Rohde & Schwarz alliance enhances Tektronix' position in the growing telecommunications market, broadening the company's portfolio of RF and communications test and measurement products, and strengthens the company's telecommunications, TV and test and measurement penetration in Eastern Europe, the Mediterranean and the Middle East. Rohde & Schwarz gains access to Tektronix' world class distribution, service and support network in the U.S., increasing the company's penetration there, and significantly expands its product portfolio in Eastern Europe and the Middle East.
