TEKTRONIX ANNOUNCES VERDICT IN PATENT CASE

WILSONVILLE, Ore., Dec. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Tektronix Inc. (NYSE: TEK) announced that on Dec. 14, 1992, an Ohio federal district court jury rendered a verdict against the company in a patent infringement action concerning the company's Pi-cell liquid crystal display products. The suit was brought against the company by James L. Fergason and Todd Morgenthaler. The jury awarded approximately $5 million in damages, including interest, to the plaintiffs. The jury also found the infringement to be willful. The court may increase the award by up to twice the amount of actual damages based on a finding of willfulness.
"We are very disappointed by this verdict, which we believe is wrong," commented R. Allan Leedy, Tektronix vice president, secretary and general counsel. "We plan to ask the court to set the verdict aside, and we will appeal any judgment entered against the company in this case."
