TEKTRONIX AND ADVANTEST CORPORATION FORM TEST & MEASUREMENT ALLIANCE IN NORTH AMERICA

 WILSONVILLE, Ore., June 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Tektronix, Inc. (NYSE: TEK) today announced the signing of a strategic alliance under which Tektronix will distribute and service Advantest Corporation's test and measurement products in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The products covered by the agreement include spectrum analysis products, telecommunications products, and specialty electronic tools, but do not include Advantest's automatic test equipment (ATE) products.
 The alliance is part of a program to aggressively pursue growth opportunities for Tektronix businesses that was initially outlined at the Company's last Annual Meeting of Shareholders in September, 1992. Initial implementation of the alliance is expected to begin this Summer and continue throughout 1993.
 "The test and measurement requirements of our customers have changed dramatically over the last decade," said Dan Terpack, vice president and general manager of Tektronix test and measurement business. "Demands for advanced technology, cost-effectiveness and full solutions continue to increase. This alliance will enhance our ability to meet our customer's evolving needs in both time domain and frequency domain instruments while continuing to provide Tektronix' world-class sales and service coupled with Tektronix' and Advantest's fine products and strong underlying technology."
 When fully implemented, the alliance agreement will provide Tektronix with exclusive distribution rights to Advantest test and measurement products in North America. In addition to a large direct sales force, Tektronix has established a number of innovative distribution methods, including distributors, representatives and direct marketing. In support of this agreement, Advantest will establish an Advantest instruments Technical Center (AiTC) in the United States.
 Advantest Corporation, based in Tokyo, Japan, is a leading supplier of test and measurement equipment, best known for its position as the world's largest supplier of automatic test equipment for integrated circuits. Advantest products span a wide range of measurement and control instrumentation and systems used by technology-based businesses around the world.
