TEKELEC ANNOUNCES NEW HIGH-SPEED PROTOCOL ANALYZER/SIMULATOR

TEKELEC ANNOUNCES NEW HIGH-SPEED PROTOCOL ANALYZER/SIMULATOR
CALABASAS, Calif., Jan. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Tekelec (NASDAQ: TKLC) today announced the Chameleon 1800, a new portable protocol analyzer based around industry-standard Intel 386 architecture and Unix operating system with an "X" Window-based graphical user interface (GUI). Tekelec will be displaying the Chameleon 1800 at the ComNet '92 trade show in Washington, D.C., Jan. 28-30, booth No. 1948.
The Chameleon 1800 provides operations and network management personnel, responsible for maintaining wide area network (WAN) services, with a network troubleshooting tool capable of decoding and analyzing frame relay, X.25 and Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) Primary Rate Interface (PRI) data in real time at up to two Mbps over a V.35, T1 or E1 physical interface. The graphical user interface provides users with a quick view of overall network health.
"Frame relay data services are in high demand and there is a growing need for an easy-to-use high speed protocol analyzer," said Peter N. Vicars, president and chief executive officer. "The Chameleon 1800 is designed for customers responsible for troubleshooting and maintaining high speed WAN networks. The intuitive graphical user interface of the Chameleon 1800 simplifies product operation and enables users to quickly identify network problems."
The Chameleon 1800 supports frame relay testing with software packages for analysis and simulation. The GUI enables users to view multiple layers at once. Tekelec's Frame Relay analysis software supports all frame relay standards, as well as local area network (LAN) protocols, including higher layer protocol analysis of TCP/IP and DECnet. The simulation software enables the Chameleon 1800 to simulate a frame relay network or node to test switches, routers or other end- point devices and perform positive and negative testing.
The Chameleon 1800 supports frame relay network statistics gathering and presentation with a separate software option. Real-time counts of network parameters and causes of network congestion is provided. This information gives network managers a good overall view of network health and is helpful in determining appropriate adjustments to maintain optimum network performance.
Shipments of the Chameleon 1800 are expected to begin in March 1992 and orders through May 31, 1992, are now being taken at a special introductory

price of $18,000 in the United States. A color version of the product is also available at $25,000.
