TEE-COMM PROVIDES CANADIAN ALTERNATIVE TO U.S. DEATH STARS

MILTON, Ontario, Feb. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- The perceived threat of domination by a giant U.S. television satellite is misplaced according to Ted Boyle of Tee-Comm Electronics Inc. (AMEX: TEN), Canada's largest manufacturer of satellite receiving equipment. Boyle, vice president of Tee-Comm's satellite programming division, TCI, says that Canadian communications technology is "more than a match for the U.S. death star".
"Canada's death star killer is already in place" says Boyle. "Our Anik satellites carry all the programming presently available in Canada, including specialty networks, TSN, MuchMusic, Newsworld, and premium pay services."
Boyle, who will make a presentation at the upcoming CRTC Structural Hearings March 1-26, says that Canadian programmers can take advantage of this satellite technology if a coordinated approach in the use of digital video technology and scrambling systems is adopted. "With digital video compression" says Boyle, "our Anik satellites are each capable of delivering at least 160 channels to Canadians across the country through a small 24 inch dish.
"The integrity of the Canadian designed and built equipment has been proven," says Boyle. "It's a leading edge satellite delivery system that has the benefit of two years of operation and is the flagship of the Canadian telecommunications network.
"TCI," says Boyle, "has built its subscriber base of satellite signal customers to over 10,000 in just eight months on the strength of the product available from the Canadian satellites."
TCI provides television programming by direct satellite to non- cabled homes across Canada, and forecasts 48,000 subscribers by the end of 1993. "The future is now," says Boyle, "and it is Canada's chance to maintain the edge it has always enjoyed in telecommunications technology."
