TECMAR INTRODUCES NEW MULTIMEDIA PRODUCT FOR THE IBM PS/1 LINE
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Jan. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced that Tecmar has introduced Vision/1(B), a full-motion TV video system, its first multimedia product for IBM's Personal System/1(A) (PS/1)(A) line of PCs.
The Vision/1 TV adapter, developed jointly with IBM, adds multimedia capabilities to the PS/1 by displaying full-motion color video on the PS/1 VGA, Photo Graphic(A) display. The video input can be taken from broadcast or cable television, video cassette recorder, laser disk player or a video camera.
"As an exclusive manufacturer of IBM Audio/Visual Multimedia adapters, Tecmar is building on its technology, expertise and development relationship with IBM to bring this innovative and productive multimedia product to the market," said Kathleen Botz, director, marketing communications for Tecmar.
"This offering complements the IBM PS/1 line with an innovative application," said Skip Gladfelter, PS/1 marketing manager for IBM's National Distribution Division. "We believe this will be an exciting new option for PS/1 owners."
The Vision/1 features a picture-in-picture mode, allowing the user to execute software programs while displaying the full-motion video input on a portion of the screen. In many applications, where news and/or special event monitoring is imperative, the picture-in-picture feature is critical.
The Vision/1 TV adapter will be sold through IBM PS/1 sales outlets including PC dealers and retail stores beginning in the first quarter of 1992. Vision/1 is priced at $395. It carries a two-year warranty that includes 48-hour Tecmar service within the first six months of purchase.
"In the sales of Vision/1, it is our intention to support both our current channels of distribution, as well as support IBM's PS/1 channel," stated Dick Owen, Tecmar vice president of sales. "We will explore new PS/1 opportunities that are new to Tecmar without compromising the integrity of our present outlets."
Tecmar, founded in 1974, is a pioneer and international leader in manufacturing enhancement products for personal computers. It is a subsidiary of Rexon, Inc. (NASDAQ: REXN).
