TECHNOPHONE ACHIEVES 'NUMBER ONE' GROWTH FOR CELLULAR PHONE DISTRIBUTION IN THE U.S.

MELBOURNE, Fla., June 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Based on the nationwide market research study recently released by Herschel Shosteck Associates, a leading cellular industry consulting firm, Technophone Corporation has achieved the "number one" position among manufacturers in increasing market distribution for mobile, transportable, and portable cellular telephones. Regardless of category, between June 1991 and June 1992, it expanded the number of outlets which sell the Technophone brand. According to the study, "The Retail Market of Cellular Phones," Technophone was the only manufacturer which expanded distribution in all three cellular telephone categories and the only one which expanded distribution of mobiles.
Commenting on Technophone's tremendous growth in distribution of mobile, transportable and portable phones over this period, Dr. Herschel Shosteck, president of Shosteck Associates, stated: "Our data reveals an enormous expansion of Technophone -- which increased distribution by 9 to 15 percentage points from June 1991 to June 1992. Since 1989 when Technophone introduced a mobile product, its distribution strength for mobiles has expanded to 30 percent (of all distribution channels in the marketplace). Its distribution strength for transportables and portables has expanded even more. Our September 1992 data show continuing expansion. Given the competitiveness of the market, this is an extraordinary achievement."
Larry Paulson, president of Technophone Corporation, noted: "Gaining market share in distribution in all three categories of our marketplace (mobile, transportable and portable phones) further substantiates Technophone's part in helping our parent company, Finland- based Nokia Mobile Phone, maintain a leadership role as the number two manufacturer of cellular phones in the world."
Paulson added, "Our gain in distribution has confirmed Technophone as a leading brand of cellular telephones in the U.S."
Technophone Corporation is a unit of Nokia Mobile Phones. Nokia Mobile Phones is a business group of the Finland-based Nokia Group, a European technology company with annual sales of nearly $4 billion, with operations in 38 countries and cellular sales in more than 70 countries. Nokia mobile Phone's primary line of business is the development, manufacturing and marketing of cellular phones worldwide.
Nokia Mobile Phones, marketed under the Nokia, Technophone, Mobira and OEM labels, is the world's second largest manufacturer of cellular telephones.
