 TECHNOLOGY APPLICATIONS, INC., ANNOUNCES REORGANIZATION
ALEXANDRIA, Va., Dec. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- On Monday, Nov. 25, 1991, Technology Applications, Inc., a high technology professional services firm headquartered in Alexandria, announced a reorganization, which included a number of executive staffing changes. The restructuring was undertaken to flatten the organization, reduce indirect costs and strengthen the corporate High Performance Computing (HPC) capability through the addition of seasoned HPC professionals.
This restructuring will permit TAI to devote more of its discretionary resources to its core business areas, most notably HPC, according to James I. Chatman, chief executive officer. Under the revised structure, Chatman will resume his responsibilities as president. The position of chief operating officer has been eliminated. Six operating divisions now report to Stanley E. Paul, who will act as TAI's vice president of operations. Paul joined TAI in 1990 as vice president of the Technology Services Division.
"A flatter organization is in keeping with TAI's philosophy of Total Quality Leadership and TAI's commitment to its customers and the corporate team concept," said Chatman. "By placing all operating divisions under one vice president, the reorganization aligns compatible business areas and enhances TAI's ability to grow in these areas while reducing indirect costs. By eliminating staffing redundancies, we have made the company stronger so that we can pursue our core business areas while maintaining overall quality performance."
In addition to Paul's reassignment, the following changes are part of the reorganization: V. Lee Cooper, formerly vice president of the Applied Sciences Division, is named vice president of business development and Norman B. Asher is named chief scientist.
Cooper joined TAI in 1990 as a general manager and was promoted to vice president of the Applied Sciences Division in 1991. He has made significant contributions toward TAI's goals by winning major contracts in key business areas, including high performance computing. He now assumes corporatewide business development responsibility.
Asher joined TAI in 1990 as a senior technical director supporting business development efforts in the areas of systems integration and ADP consulting. He has been key to TAI's emergence as a leader in the high performance computing and systems integration industries. As chief scientist, Asher will serve as internal consultant and leader of studies in a wide range of technical areas, focusing primarily on high performance computing systems, high speed telecommunications, imaging and large-scale systems design and operation.
TAI provides high technology professional services in high performance computing, C3I, environmental sciences and engineering services primarily to civil and military agencies, including DOD, NASA and the EPA. TAI employs nearly 600 people in 40 locations around the United States and overseas. Principal offices are in the Washington area; Dayton, Ohio; Camarillo, Calif.; Albuquerque, N.M.; and Newport, R.I.
