TeleCommunication Systems Inc (TCS) (Nasdaq:TSYS), a provider of secure mobile communication technology, announced on Tuesday the signing of a contract with the US Army to provide the Microsat family of Very Small Aperture Terminal satellite terminals with associated engineering services.

Initial funding on this award is USD1.1m for the base 18-month period starting 27 September 2013. The contract has a total value of USD14m, if all options are exercised, TCS said.

This contract was issued under the Global Tactical Advanced Communication Systems and Services (GTACS) contract vehicle, under which TCS is a prime GTACS contract awardee. GTACS has an estimated ceiling of USD10bn over five years, starting in November 2012.

Reportedly, this is the first GTACS task order awarded directly to TCS.
