TCEQ Grants to Fund Hybrid Delivery Vehicle Projects.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) recently announced the award of $12.4 million in air pollution reduction grants under the New Technology Research and Development (NTRD) program, "an innovative program developed by the Texas Legislature to provide financial incentives to encourage and support research, development and commercialization of technologies to reduce pollution in Texas."

According to TCEQ, the NTRD program is currently focusing on projects that develop and facilitate commercialization of technologies that could receive funding under the Texas Emissions Reduction Plan (TERP) incentive grants program.

TCEQ noted that it selected 22 projects to receive grants for this round of funding through the NTRD program, including Frito-Lay's testing of hybrid electric delivery trucks, the county of El Paso's development of a natural gas-powered hybrid electric transit bus, FedEx's testing and certification of medium-duty hybrid electric delivery vehicles, Gas Technology Institute's development of a small-scale hydrogen fuel cell refueling station and a fuel cell-powered delivery truck, and Railpower Hybrid Technologies Corporation's extended application of hybrid electric switcher locomotive technology.
