TATTOO TOWERS; Fan spends pounds 2000 to put Lord of the Rings villains on his back.

Byline: By KAREN BALE

LORD of the Rings fan George McCulloch has turned his back into a tribute to the blockbuster film trilogy.

He has spent pounds 2000 and endured 70 hours of pain to have the evil forces from the Tolkien books tattooed on him.

The all-seeing eye of chief baddie Lord Sauron is at the top of the picture, with the Ring in the centre.

Also featured are Gollum, wizard Saruman, orcs, the Balrog, a cave troll and the Black Riders.

George has had 10 months of three-hour tattoo sessions to create the work of art.

It was finished just days before the last film The Return of theKing was released on Wednesday. Dad-of-two George, of Cumnock, Ayrshire, plans to have the Forces of Goodness tattooed on his chest.

He said: ``I am absolutely mad about Lord of The Rings and I am delightedwiththetattooonmyback.

``It is a work of art and I am soproud of it. To be honest it didn't hurt that much. I have problems with my back and am often in a lot of pain, so the needles were almost like acupuncture.''

Lorry driver George, 40, said: ``I agreed with tattooist Neil Sinclair that we would have a giant ring in the centre and I left him to his own devices for the rest.

``He is a friend of mine and a huge Lord of the Rings fanhimself, so I trusted him implicitly.'' George, who has hundreds of items of memorabilia from the books and the film trilogy, has been a fan since he was 16.

He said: ``I first read the books when I was a teenager and always wondered what the characters looked like.

``I am delighted with the tattoo and can't wait to see The Return of the King.''
