TASC ANNOUNCES DOCUMENT IMAGING SYSTEM CONTRACT WITH T. ROWE PRICE

READING, Mass., July 1 /PRNewswire/ -- TASC (The Analytic Sciences Corporation), a subsidiary of Primark Corporation (NYSE: PMK), has been awarded a document imaging contract, in excess of $1 million, with T. Rowe Price Services, the Baltimore-based processing and customer servicing agent for the 1.5 million shareholder accounts who have invested $30 billion in T. Rowe Price mutual funds.
Under the terms of the contract, TASC will automate the transfer agency function by converting paper into electronic images and routing them via work flow software to 160 information processors. In addition, the new system will connect over 300 telephone operators for forms creation, viewing of Computer Output to Laser Disk (COLD) records and access to image data.
"We selected TASC for its commitment to open system solutions, advanced image/workflow products and systems development methodology," said Mary Madick, vice president, T. Rowe Price Services. "We were particularly impressed with TASC's ability to `humanize' the new system with an interactive approach to application software."
"Not only does this agreement create cost-effective solutions for T. Rowe Price Services, it provides the company with an image/workflow system that uses the latest advances in application software," said Dr. Charles Ormsby, vice president and director of TASC's Image Systems Integration Division. "We expect the new system to improve T. Rowe Price Services productivity, enhance its customer service and increase its competitiveness in the mutual funds industry."
 Key Technologies
The new system will use TASC-Flow, a fifth generation graphical workflow tool aimed at the mission-critical segment of the workflow market. TASC-Flow's graphical design techniques eliminate complex workflow programming, offer centralized monitoring/workflow control, provide document routing based on multiple criteria (including workers skills) and enable workflow simulation through the TASC-FlowSim product. According to Madick, "TASC-Flow allows T. Rowe Price to rapidly design, develop and maintain the workflow application without third party assistance. TASC was the only vendor to have a true workflow simulation capability."
TASC's PictureCom compression software will reduce image and COLD storage costs and provide quick access to images and COLD data over wide area networks. PictureCom compressed document images are typically one half of the size of files compressed using Group 4. This cuts document storage transmission costs by 50 percent, making the software a key consideration for users interested in developing large applications. Even greater savings have been generated for COLD data.
